denkhausbremen is publishing a catalogue of demands for a socially just and ecologically sustainable future. What is special about it is that the document focuses on the ideas of 25 initiatives throughout Germany in which people on a “small budget” represent themselves. The demands therefore reflect the perspectives of people who are dependent on state transfer payments, have a disability or illness that limits them, have a migration background or are homeless. The catalog is the result of a journey through Germany that has lasted several years and is a forceful appeal to shape the future together and inclusively. (In German language only)

Addressing structural racism involves recognising the deep-rooted systems that perpetuate inequality. By addressing these gaps and needs through targeted actions, we can work towards dismantling structural racism and promoting equality for all. This policy brief and recommendations outline the necessary steps for decision-makers to address structural and institutional racism effectively. It advocates for both national and EU decision-makers to champion these efforts, fostering a united and proactive response to promote equality and justice for all.

Discrimination on the ground of racial or ethnic origin takes place not only on an individual basis, but also at the structural and institutional level. This report aims to shed light on existing laws, policies, procedures, institutional practices, procedures, social behaviours and attitudes of structural racism in the EU. It also seeks to facilitate evidence-based policymaking and identify the gaps in addressing structural and institutional racism at EU and national level.

The coronavirus pandemic was followed by Russia's attack on Ukraine, and since then almost 1.2 million people have arrived in Germany from Ukraine - in addition to those who have migrated via the regular asylum system. At the same time, personnel and financial bottlenecks in local authorities are becoming more apparent: problems such as a lack of housing or insufficient childcare are putting local administrations under pressure. How can municipalities develop resilience in the face of these multiple challenges? Between May 2023 and March 2024, DeZIM explored this question together with 11 municipalities, highlighting best practice and making recommendations for action in the report. (German only)
